Caring for your Sculpted
Jewelry
Some
simple tips to ensure your jewelry stays looking like
new!
·
Always avoid contact with chemicals, such as pool and seawater,
hair spray, perfumes, household cleaners.
· Avoid discoloration of your stones and gold by not
swimming with your pieces on and by putting your jewelry on AFTER
you are finished with your hair, and makeup and AFTER you spritz
your perfume. Perfumes and hairsprays especially, can leave
permanent spots.
· Don't wear your jewelry to bed or while working out.
Exercising, swimming or sweating while wearing your jewelry will
cause them to collect sweat and other pollutants and will leave
behind a film that will dull the color and shine of your piece.
This is why you should clean your jewelry periodically. Wiping your
pieces with a soft, damp cloth after wearing will help prevent a
lot of this.
· Always store silver jewelry in an airtight location.
Such as in a zip lock bag in your jewelry box. When air hits your
silver it causes it to tarnish more quickly. The more you wear your
silver jewelry the less it will tarnish. Silver scratches easily so
always use the softest cloth you can find to polish
silver.
Cleaning your
new wire Jewelry: Never clean over the sink as you
could lose a precious piece. Use a bowl if possible. A simple
method is to immerse in warm soapy water (use very mild soaps such
as ivory or dove for soft and delicate stones). Scrub gently with a
soft bristle toothbrush. Then rinse well and lay on a soft towel to
dry. Only use ultrasonic cleaners on hard crystalline stones. If
not sure, then avoid using them. They can damage treated, and soft
stones.
Caring for
Cameos: To clean cameos gently scrub with
a soft bristle toothbrush in warm water. If you must use a cleaning
solution use a natural one with no ammonia and just dip it in for
only a few seconds and rinse with warm water immediately. After
cleaning, you need to moisturize the cameo so that it does not
become brittle and chip or break. Use a fine mineral oil and apply
with a q-tip. Let this soak on for a few hours. Then wipe off any
oil that remains. You should do this at least once a year. (You can
do this also with amber and opal to keep it
soft)

Caring for pearls:Store in a cool dry place away
from sunlight, heat and moisture. It is advisable that pearls be
dampened periodically, in lightly salted water. Do not expose your
pearls to chemicals, or substances such as dishwashing liquid, or
acidic products like vinegar, lemon juice, hairspray or perfume.
After wearing your favorite pearls, simply wipe them off with a
soft cloth, the cloth can be damp or dry. This will help prevent
dirt from building up, as well as stop the accumulation of
perspiration, which is slightly acidic and can cause deterioration
of the pearl.
For pearls that have not been cleaned for an
extended period of time, simply start by washing the pearls in
water using VERY mild dish soap such as ivory or Lux. Ensure dish
soap is extremely mild as some commercial dish soaps, such as dawn,
can actually cause damage to the pearls because of the high level
of acidity.
While washing the pearls pay close attention to
areas around the drill holes, prongs, etc, as dirt tends to collect
here. The simply lay them flat in a moist kitchen towel to dry.
Once the towel is dry the pearls are ready to be worn or put away.
These few simple caring steps can make a tremendous difference to
the life of your pearls and will allow you to pass them down from
generation to generation
